Often imagining scenarios seen in films like "Terminator" or "2001: A Space Odyssey" we can be frightened by the growth of AI. But is it artificial intelligence that we should be scared of? Let's find out! Alessio Pomaro Alessio Pomaro Aug 23, 2021 •6 min read Artificial intelligence is scary because it doesn't know itself. But the human one? Artificial intelligence is scary because it doesn't know itself. But the human one? In recent days I have followed some events that made me reflect in the field of artificial intelligence , algorithms and technological acceleration .
What are these events? I'll tell you briefly about some of them. 1) DeepMind has solved a India Mobile Number Data scientific problem that has been open for over 50 years DeepMind ( Alphabet's company dedicated to Artificial Intelligence ) has created a neural network called AlphaFold2 that has solved an important problem related to biology: predicting the structure of a protein from the sequence of amino acids that it includes . Janet Thornton , director of the European Bioinformatics Institute, said the following.. The three-dimensional structure of proteins is essential for understanding the internal workings of cells . Over the past 27 years, progress has been steady, but rather slow.
With AlphaFold2 the improvement has been frightening .. the biggest of what we have seen for many years: a real change of pace . Update 11/15/2021 Alphabet launches Isomorphic Labs , which will leverage DeepMind 's algorithms to discover new drugs and medical treatments using artificial intelligence. Isomorphic Labs | Home Home The company says its goal is to " reimagine " the drug development process with an AI-first approach. "We believe that the foundational use of cutting edge computational and AI methods can help scientists take their work to the next level, and massively accelerate the drug discovery process." - Demis Hassabis, founder and CEO @ Isomorphic Labs A recent study by the National Center for Biotechnology Information found that the average cost of creating a new drug is $1.3 billion. The use of artificial intelligence could lower these costs and increase the chances of success.
